Listening: culinary podcasts

There’s a good chance you keep your culinary knowledge up to date by reading articles and watching television programmes. But why strain your eyes when you can use your ears too? We looked into which podcasts are the most fun to listen to. Ideal for on the go or for a quiet evening on the sofa: these are our favourite culinary podcasts.

Cheft
Eight chefs, eight episodes and eight dishes. Presenter Hiske Versprille talks at length with the best and most influential Amsterdam chefs. Her motto: the more you know, the more you taste. Who will be featured? Joris Bijdendijk (RIJKS), Leonardo Pacenti (Toscanini), Guillaume de Beer and Freek van Noortwijk (Breda, Guts & Glory). Sidney Schutte (Spectrum), John Halvemaan, Yvette van Boven, Luuk Kusters and Michiel van de Eerde. Get to know these top Amsterdam chefs while listening.
Obsessed with food
For Lize Korpershoek, food is just food. Others are obsessed with it. To discover why, Lize explores a different kitchen with various chefs every week. The podcasts are nice and short: they last no more than fifteen minutes. Ideal for listening to on the train or bus.
The Splendid Table
An American culinary podcast about culture, lifestyle and, above all, food. This last element in particular has a huge influence on our daily lives. Every week, Francis Lam takes you on a culinary journey of discovery and teaches you more about preparations, cultures and perspectives.
Bon Appétit Foodcast
You read that right: your favourite site also has its own podcast. Listen to a new episode every Wednesday afternoon. Conversations with chefs, writers and other big names from the culinary world. A small selection of the topics covered: How do you cook the perfect brown rice? How do you make crispy rice? How did that one hospitality entrepreneur make their shop so successful?
Spilled milk
Molly Wizenberg and Matthew Amster-Burton present this podcast. In the show, they cook something, eat it and share their findings. They choose a topic and go all out on it, very quickly and with plenty of humour. The subjects are also incredibly varied: from Thai curry to mints.
Burnt toast
Food has a major influence on our daily lives, in more ways than we think. Burnt Toast is Food52’s podcast. Presenter Michael Harl discovers a different aspect of our food culture and community every week. He also discusses the origins of the products we use most often. He talks to people who are shaping the food of today and are pioneers of the culinary future.

Taste Daily
Taste is an online food magazine for people who enjoy cooking at home and reading cookbooks. Listen to a new episode of this podcast every day.
