Are you drinking enough water?

We all know that drinking too little water can give you dark urine, muscle cramps and headaches, but did you know that these are also warnings from your body that you’re becoming dehydrated?

Never forget to drink water again? At the bottom of the article, you’ll find some handy tips to help you do just that.
Your hunger doesn’t go away
In cases of extreme dehydration, your brain may confuse thirst with hunger. No matter how many Oreos or Snickers you eat, you’ll never feel satisfied. So make sure you drink at least one glass of water with every meal.
Bad breath
It doesn’t sound pleasant, but it’s true: your saliva helps keep your mouth clean. As soon as you fall asleep, you stop producing saliva. That explains the bad breath you have in the morning. If you don’t drink enough water, you also stop producing saliva. So avoid awkward conversations with your colleagues by drinking that extra glass of water.
Mood swings
Dehydration causes some functions in your body to malfunction, including rational thinking. If you don’t drink enough, you may suddenly find yourself getting irritated when a colleague says hello.
Premature aging
If you don’t drink enough, it affects your skin. This is because without enough fluid, your body is no longer able to produce its natural moisturizing oils. If you don’t drink enough water for a longer period, wrinkles may even slowly begin to appear.
You gain weight
With too little water in your system, your body holds on to everything else you consume, including that KitKat you quickly gobbled down this morning to satisfy your hunger.
How to make sure you get enough water
Fortunately, there’s a solution to every problem. To prevent you from standing in front of your colleagues in the morning with your big belly, bad breath and wrinkles, we’ve put together a list of tips to help you drink more water.
- Drink a glass of water as soon as you get out of bed.
- Take a bottle with you everywhere and put it right in front of you. Tell yourself that you have to finish that bottle at least four times today.
- Fill a pitcher with water and put it in the fridge (where you can see it) for extra delicious, cold water. Much more appealing than that lukewarm tap water.
- Use an app to keep track of how much you drink. (e.g. Daily Water)
- Make fancy water by adding some lemon and mint.
- Create a WhatsApp group chat with all your friends who have the same ‘problem’. By sending each other a photo of your water bottle every day, you’ll remind one another to stay hydrated.
