The world’s best cocktail bar is opening in Amsterdam

The founders of the world’s best cocktail bar, Dandelyan, are opening a cocktail bar in Amsterdam on 18 April: Super Lyan.

Does that name sound familiar? It might. The cocktail bar is currently located in the basement of the Hoxton restaurant ‘Cub’ in London, but founder Ryan Chetiyawardana, also known as ‘Mr Lyan‘, fancied an adventure abroad. And so they’re moving the whole operation to our capital in April.
Nostalgic and innovative
In a historic building on the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, to be precise. And as if that weren’t cool enough: the building also has a covered courtyard. And inside? Expect hints of the 1950s: a playful interior, cosy corners and candy colours.
That sounds a little old-fashioned, but knowing Mr Lyan, the drinks won’t be. It’s not for nothing that he caused a stir in 2013 with his first cocktail bar, White Lyan, where he avoided perishable products such as fruit and ice with sustainability and innovation in mind. Two years later, he was named International Bartender of the Year 2015, and in 2018 Dandelyan was crowned the best cocktail bar in the world.
Amsterdammer
Although ‘Mr Lyan’ says he’s a huge fan of Amsterdam, he won’t be behind the bar himself. It will be run by Thomas Datema, a familiar name in Amsterdam’s cocktail scene. He previously worked at Hiding in Plain Sight and was the co-founder of Rosalia’s Menagerie.
