App You’ll Want: Too Good To Go

Too Good To Go wants as little food as possible to end up in the bin. The app is also available in the Netherlands, allowing you to pick up food at a discount from restaurants, bakeries and shops that would otherwise be thrown away.

The Danish company launched the app in its home country in 2015. It became a success there, and it was soon available to download in other European cities too. And people are eagerly downloading it: in the Netherlands alone, Too Good To Go has now saved around 13 million meals from the bin. 

Win-win situation

How does the TGTG app work? Simple: download it (for free) to your phone and choose a restaurant (or shop or bakery) near you. The restaurant puts together a box of leftover food, which you can then pick up. Okay, there’s a chance the box will contain something you like less. On the other hand: you pay only half the regular price, and sometimes even less. Either way, it’s a win-win situation: you save money, eat well and help combat food waste, while restaurants earn extra money from food they would otherwise throw in the bin.
