Chicken sashimi exists and this is what it tastes like

We have all learned that eating raw chicken is an absolute no-go. But in Japan, they don’t take that kind of rule quite so seriously. Some restaurants there actually serve chicken sashimi. Yes, really: raw chicken.

The internet exploded when photos of plates with thin slices of raw chicken appeared on Twitter. Lightly grilled on the outside, glossy, slippery pink and unmistakably raw on the inside. One-way ticket to salmonella, anyone?
Salmonella, really?
According to the Japanese, it’s not all that bad. They cut the slices from the middle of the chicken breast, because that part is supposedly less likely to be contaminated with salmonella. Nevertheless, it isn’t without risk, warns the Japanese Minister of Health.
Tried and tested
FavorFlav’s daredevil Emma couldn’t resist trying a piece when she was in Japan. Her verdict? ‘It’s not the tastiest thing I’ve ever eaten, but it was actually really good. Because it’s briefly grilled, it tastes a little like charcoal and smoke, while the inside is very tender.’ She didn’t get sick from it, by the way.
Would you dare try it, or would you rather go for regular sashimi?
