And yes, you could also walk to the supermarket, but if you’re already sitting on the sofa in your pyjamas, you don’t feel like doing that, right? Sometimes making your own powdered sugar is simply a lot less effort than putting on your shoes and going outside.

Cornstarch

Here’s how: put granulated sugar or white brown sugar together with cornstarch in a food processor or blender. Why cornstarch? It prevents the sugar from sticking together. Turn on the machine until the sugar has the consistency of powdered sugar. It’s that simple, but you just have to think of it. Within a few minutes, you’ll have made the perfect topping for your mini pancakes.

Pink, blue, red, yellow—nothing is too crazy

Want to take it one step further? Add some food colouring for a truly festive powdered sugar party. Use powdered food colouring, not the liquid variety. Pink, blue, red, yellow—nothing is too crazy. Otherwise, you’ll just be chewing on an ordinary pancake, right? Store your homemade powdered sugar in a tightly sealed container, and it will keep for a very long time.
