10 Seriously Annoying Pranks People Pull in Hospitality

Working in hospitality is hard, but luckily there’s also plenty of fun to be had. Especially because of the pranks colleagues pull on one another. Familiar to everyone who has (or had) a job in hospitality: these pranks range from harmless to downright frustrating. Thanks to everyone who tipped us off on Facebook!

Annoying hospitality pranks
1. ‘Sending colleagues across the street to get Irish coffee beans.’ I would totally fall for that—they’d see you coming a mile away!
2. ‘Having an intern tap every mussel against the edge of the sink three times, one by one, otherwise they wouldn’t open.’ With kilos of mussels, you’ll be at it for a while..
3. ‘A currant gun to shoot the currants into the bread’. Though that actually seems pretty useful to me.
4. ‘Making the new intern fetch green pepper powder as their first job.’ So lame!
5. ‘Having a new employee wash mussel shells so new mussels can be put in them.’ Are there seriously people who fall for this?
6. ‘Fetching a bucket of steam to refill the steamer..’ NOOOOO!
7. ‘Sending someone to the supermarket to look for oxtails for oxtail soup.’ Okay, honestly: that’s a sneaky one.
8. ‘Having someone fetch a lettuce curler to curl the lettuce leaves.’ Mean!
9. ‘Having the new intern look for powdered ice cubes.’ Doesn’t something like that exist?
10. ‘Having the de Leeuw family call back, then giving them the zoo’s number.’ Haha, classic!
