In every city, there is something to eat. From breakfast to an overnight stay. With these tips, you can spend your 24 hours eating your way through Bruges.
Breakfast
Start your day at That’s toast. Besides the fact that the food here is delicious, you can also have a laugh at the names on the menu. The poké bowl is called ‘gotta catch em all’, and after a night of partying, you can dare to order a ‘slutty Mary’. But the divine, generously filled sandwiches also satisfy a serious hunger.

Coffee
After a walk through the historic center, it’s time for coffee. You can have it at the fresh, living-room-style coffee spot Kottee Kaffee. Open your laptop, pick up one of the many magazines or chat away. Enjoying a cup of good coffee with homemade treats, you’ll be ready for the rest of Bruges in no time.
Lunch
We’re not really into light meals. That works out well, because at Nomad you come for a worldly plate full of comfort food. Nomad stands for No Ordinary Meals and Drinks, and you can tell. The menu features dishes with Italian, Indian and Mexican influences. Not very hungry after all? Then look under the heading ‘hipster healthy’ for granola, oats and smoothies.
Beer
In Bruges, drinks time is mainly beer time. And you drink beer at De Garre. This beer café is hidden in a side street (or rather: alley) off Breidelstraat. The choice is huge and the atmosphere is relaxed. Prefer wine? Then Riesling & Pinot is your spot. As the name suggests, only riesling and pinot noir are served here. Let yourself be surprised by the variations and have your glass filled by sommelier Casimir Dusart.

Dinner
For a tasty Belgian meal, go to the famous Bistro Refter. For €37,- you can enjoy a three-course set menu here, but the à la carte dishes are also local, delicious and unpretentious. Think spit-roasted Mechelen cuckoo, pork belly or the ‘hutespot royal’. Prefer somewhere a little more luxurious? Then take a seat in the Piet Hein Eek chairs at stylish Restaurant Lieven.

Sleeping
The most atmospheric hotels here are also the most old-fashioned. Well, what else would you expect in a medieval city? Think floral wallpaper, large armchairs and a bedspread on the bed. Yet the atmosphere of old-fashioned aristocracy gives you a sense of luxury. So treat yourself to an overnight stay at Die Swaene or at Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce. The luxurious B&B Huis Koning (which is actually more like a hotel) is a little less extravagant, but still has atmospheric rooms in a monumental building.
