24 hours in Tilburg

There is always something to experience and, above all, eat in every city. The same goes for Tilburg in Brabant. From breakfast to an overnight stay: with these tips, you can spend 24 hours eating your way through this city as a food tourist.

Breakfast
For a savory breakfast, head to Pig & Rye. Here you can eat bacon and bread. And, of course, plenty more. The baker from Tilburg Sourdough is in charge here. In other words: homemade, crackling-fresh bread every day. And we haven’t even mentioned the eighteen-hour slow-cooked pulled pork, bacon from Brandt & Levie and pastrami made from Black Angus brisket.

Something sweet
You might not expect it, but at brown café Slagroom you can do something very special, namely ice dipping. Take a skewer of fruit of your choice through sweet dips and then hold it in a fondue of nitrogen at -196ºC. This makes the outside deliciously cold and crispy while the fruit stays fresh. Definitely something for your food bucket list.
Lunch
When you’re in Tilburg, you want to experience Tilburg. To do so, settle down at De Spaarbank in the heart of the city. Here you can enjoy classics with a twist, such as oyster mushroom croquettes, a quadrupel cheese sandwich or a toasted sandwich with mature cheese and bacon jam.
Drinks
Besides full plates, we also attach great importance to full glasses. That’s why a drinks break is essential. Sink into a seat with a specialty beer at De Burgerij. This institution has been exuding a Burgundian atmosphere in the Brabant countryside for years. Jaap, Sam and Joris converted their childhood home into a cozy city brasserie with bed & breakfast.

Dinner
Looking for something unique? Then you should definitely go to Eetbar de Wagon. The restaurant is located in a train carriage from 1930. De Wagon features an open kitchen from which all dishes are served. Take a seat at the dining bar, in the original old compartment or on the sunny platform. Dishes such as Korean fried chicken and risotto with peas and green beans come from the open kitchen.

Cocktails
Gin Fizz is a small cocktail bar right in the center of Tilburg. There is a wide range of cocktails and no fewer than twenty gin and tonic variations. The specialty beers and wines are original too. In short: a lovely place for a drink and, at the weekend, a dance.
Stay the night
Finished eating? From the center, it takes five minutes to walk to B&B De Winterresidentie. Here you can drift off to sleep in a cozy Brabant atmosphere with all the luxury of a hotel.
