Fish, fish

Would you like to learn how to prepare all that delicious North Sea produce better? Join a workshop on peeling shrimp or attend a fish filleting demonstration by a renowned chef. Bid on the finest catch at the fish auction and taste the most delicious fish dishes from one of the dozens of food trucks.

Whiting in the spotlight

Every year, VISSCH puts a ‘forgotten’ North Sea fish in the spotlight. This year it is whiting, a relative of the well-known cod. Whiting is often bycatch. This means that when fishermen are fishing for something else, they often also catch whiting in their nets. Whiting is often deep-fried as lekkerbekje, but it can be prepared in many different culinary ways. How do you do that? You’ll learn in the cooking studio or during one of the many demonstrations and workshops.

VISSCH Award ceremony

This year, the VISSCH Award will be presented for the first time during the festival to a person, business or institution that makes a special contribution to promoting North Sea fish. A professional jury, together with the public, will decide who the winner is, considering themes such as local, health, sustainability and flavour.

The festival will take place during the weekend of 6 to 8 October 2017 at the fish auction in Scheveningen, opposite fish specialists Simonis and Roeleveld. The special VISSCH water taxi will take you from anywhere in the harbour to the festival. Click here for more information about the VISSCH Award ceremony and programme.
