5x beer with veggies

You love specialty beers and would like to try something new at Friday afternoon drinks. How about these five beers with vegetables? With special flavorings such as: pumpkin, potato, sugar beet, cucumber and chicory. Now that’s a tempting way to get your daily portion of vegetables.

Pumpkin Party: autumnal and spicy pumpkin
With the rainy weather, we’re already fully embracing the autumn atmosphere. And that’s convenient, because this month Gebrouwen door Vrouwen is launching a Pumpkin Party (6.9% ABV) together with Brouwerij Hoop, a Pumpkin Ale (pumpkin beer) inspired by American examples. A soft and sweet autumn beer with pumpkin, cinnamon and clove, and a deep orange color. Delicious in combination with a hearty stew.
Pieper Bier: floral and bitter potato
Did you know that by drinking this beer, you can also contribute to a better world? Pieper Bier (4.7% ABV) is a locally brewed specialty beer from no-waste restaurant Instock, made with potatoes that would otherwise be thrown away. A floral and bitter beer that connoisseurs compare to a Pale Ale (in other words: blonde beer). Ideal with snacks, charcuterie or creamy dishes.
Bietenbrug: fresh and soft sugar beet
Earlier this year, Brouwerij Poort from Nieuw-Vennep launched an experimental regional beer made from Haarlemmermeer sugar beets: Bietenbrug beer (6% ABV). The light beer tastes fresh and soft and works well as a drink to enjoy with snacks, combined with Dutch herring. Beer and beets, then.
Oedipus Volkspils: fragrant and fresh cucumber
Especially for the Amsterdam Volkshotel, the men of Oedipus brewery brewed this special beer: Oedipus Volkspils (5.0% ABV). With cucumber as its unique flavoring, which you can smell and taste. A wonderfully refreshing and original pilsner with a light yellow-green color. Exciting in combination with sushi.
Witgoud: blonde and slightly bitter chicory
Our southern neighbors are also experimenting enthusiastically with vegetable beers. For example, Belgian brewery Hof ten Dormaal developed the world’s first beer with chicory: Witgoud (8% ABV). This robust blonde beer has a fresh and slightly bitter taste. Goes well with fatty fish dishes and rich cheeses.
