6 delicious treats with puff pastry

Making puff pastry yourself is a time-consuming job. Short on time? Then ready-made puff pastry from the freezer is your lifesaver. In no time you can use it to create impressive, crispy and buttery creations. These are without a doubt our six favourites.

Quick apple crostata
The base of this Italian fruit tart consists of a shortcrust pastry crust. But if you are short on time, you can easily replace it with ready-made puff pastry. This makes the flat tart a little lighter, crispier and slightly less sweet. And that is fine, because when the base is basic, you can go all out with the toppings. Cover the puff pastry with thinly sliced apple and give it an extra flavour boost with lemon juice and some fresh ginger. Finish it completely with a coating of apricot jam, spread over the crostata just after you slide it out of the oven.
Peach tarts with goat cheese
A flaky puff pastry parcel with sweet peaches on a bed of melted goat cheese. Finish the whole thing with honey and a little black pepper on top. Colourful and fruity, with enough cheese as the perfect counterpart to the sweet, ripe peach: this is a delicious summery dessert.
Honey-mustard sausages in puff pastry
The ultimate upgrade to the classic party snack of cocktail sausages wrapped in puff pastry. Why? Because even before you roll up the puff pastry, you spread it with a mixture of caramel, honey and mustard and top it with some pepper. Once rolled up, finish the pastry with egg yolk for a beautiful shine.
Apple pandowdy
This American dessert is actually just an oven dish filled with apples and pieces of puff pastry on top. You mix the apples with sugar, which melts in the oven, while the apples become juicy and soft. The puff pastry provides a lovely bite, and the lemon adds a subtle tang. The pandowdy is best served warm, with a scoop of ice cream on top.
Rolled garlic bread with cheese
We feel quite confident saying it: this round bread roll is a hundred times tastier than bake-off herb baguette. What’s more, it is super quick to make. All you have to do is spread the puff pastry slices with a mixture of butter, garlic, fresh parsley and plenty of Parmesan cheese. In the oven, the whole thing bakes up cruncy, without the bread becoming dry on the inside.
Flat tart with carrot and dill
Topping puff pastry with classic pizza toppings can be delicious, but every now and then we prefer a more unusual version. For that, you need plenty of ricotta, as well as onion and carrot. The whole thing develops a crispy layer in the oven.
