8x pregnancy-proof

No alcohol, raw meat, raw-milk cheeses, organ meat, raw fish, predatory fish, smoked fish, liquorice, tiramisu and another hundred thousand things; cooking for a pregnant woman is a labour in itself. With these tips, both you and her will get through those nine months deliciously.

Carnivore
Okay, there are quite a few things on the ‘forbidden-to-eat list’, but that doesn’t mean you can no longer enjoy a meaty meal. The only things you need to avoid when it comes to meat are raw meat (think steak tartare, carpaccio, filet américain and rare steak) and liver. Easy, then, because that means a delicious bolognese, roasted spring chicken or a juicy lamb burger are all perfectly fine.
Fish lover
You’ll have to skip the plateau fruits de mer and platters full of sushi and sashimi for now. But fish is incredibly healthy, so don’t give it all up. Do pay attention to which fish you choose: besides raw fish and shellfish, predatory fish (swordfish, pike, zander, shark, mackerel, eel, tuna) and smoked fish (salmon, kipper, herring, sprat, trout) are also off-limits. ‘So what can I eat?!’ we hear you thinking. This salmon with soy and sesame, provided you cook it through properly. And how about these fresh grilled sardines or a good portion of homemade fish sticks?
Vegetarian
The good news: all vegetables and fruit are pregnancy-proof. Raw-milk cheese and raw eggs (in, for example, mousse and tiramisu) unfortunately aren’t, but of course you can easily work around that. The easiest way? Simply look for vegan recipes, such as these stuffed pasta shells. Still craving something cheesy? As long as the cheese is pasteurised, it’s perfectly fine. So Grandma’s cheese soufflé? Go for it!
