9 x Seafood in Amsterdam

From oysters and lobster on a plateau of fruits de mer to responsibly sourced fish & chips. For everything from the sea in Amsterdam, these are the places to go.

Bar Fisk
Here you can eat oysters, deep-fried sardines with roasted onion and chili vinaigrette, or corvina tartare with tabbouleh at the bar. For late-night fish cravings, this is the place to go; the kitchen is open until after midnight. Be sure not to skip the cocktail menu either.

Stork
This beautiful terrace at the fish restaurant is located by the water in Amsterdam Noord. It faces south, so it gets sun all day. On a summery, sunny day, this is the perfect place to sit. The plateau of fruits de mer is enormous.

John Dory
High-end dining on the Prinsengracht. The menu depends on what the fish supplier brings in and therefore changes regularly. Go as extravagant as you like. You can stop by for drinks and oysters, but you can also have three courses for € 35,- or enjoy an extensive eight-course dinner for € 85,-.

De Gouden Hoek
At this fish café, you eat bycatch. There are always three different kinds of fish & chips: beer batter with remoulade, panko crust with piccalilli mayo, and tempura batter with sriracha mayonnaise. Which fish is inside the crispy coating depends on what ended up in the nets that day. Sometimes it’s cod, sometimes whiting, dab, or hake. For dessert, order hangop with caramel and sea salt or espresso with sea asparagus (haha). A good concept: sustainable and affordable.

Brut de Mer
Fresh fish is delivered here from Zeeland every day. The lobster bisque is famous, as is the lukewarm fruits de mer.

Seafoodbar
With at least four types of oysters on the menu, even the most seasoned seafood lover will be satisfied. But you should also come here for all kinds of dishes from the plancha and various types of ceviche. Another nice thing: you can order plenty to take home.

Mossel & Gin
In Westerpark, you can feast on mussels until you weigh an ounce more. Or until you’ve gained three kilos. Order them classic, Thai-style, or with leek and crème fraîche. You drink gin with them, as the restaurant’s name already suggests.

Tijger & de Vis
At Tijger & de Vis on the Lindengracht, you can eat a ‘fish of the day’ for €12,50. The concept is as simple as it is effective: you choose a fish (fish of the day, kibbeling, lekkerbek, or a crab burger), and then choose fries and salad, pasta, or mashed potatoes. We go for the kibbeling with fries and salad. But you’re also in the right place here for scallop croquettes, marinated octopus, and lobster rolls. All salads and sauces are homemade, and the pickles are also made in-house.

Stubbe’s herring
Under the motto ‘Stubbe’s herring is a revelation’, velvety, pale-pink herring has been sold at the tip of the Singel for many years.
