A festival in the Bijlmer: 24H Zuidoost
At 24H Zuidoost, foodies can eat to their heart’s content, learn all about Bijlmer herbs and drink to their heart’s content at a brewery.
24H Amsterdam is a programme by Amsterdam Marketing that puts different neighbourhoods in the city in the spotlight. On 16 September, it’s the Bijlmer’s turn. Various events will take place throughout the district. These are the best ones, foodwise:
What grows in Zuidoost?
Biologist Tet Roetman takes you through Gaasperplas Park and teaches you to recognise plant species, trees and lots of herbs. The flora excursion takes place from 10 am to 12 noon and costs nothing. If you want to join, you do need to register.
Art & cocktails
Two Cuban artists showcase their work inspired by Gerrit Rietveld and Piet Mondrian. A cocktail bar has been built next to the exhibition, where you can buy cocktails. The exhibition is ongoing and free. You can visit it between 11 am and 5:30 pm.
Wild walks in the Riethoek
Walk through a field where local women grow vegetables, fruit, flowers and herbs. Bloei & Groei organises guided tours at 11:30 am and 1 pm.
A culinary journey around the world through World of Food
During this tasty architectural tour of World of Food, exploring the transformation from old car park into culinary paradise, you can sample all kinds of delicious treats throughout the day. There are tastings all day. Tours start at 2, 3 and 4 pm.
Primitive Instinct Day at Kleiburg brewery
Barbecue and brew beer (and drink it, of course). Who wouldn’t want that? There will also be live music and a campfire. The brewery is open from 4 pm to 1 am.

You can listen to a gospel choir, watch a film while floating in a pool during a float-in swimming-pool movie, take dance workshops or walk through the new Gaasperdammer Tunnel (the A9 will soon run through it) during a guided tour. Check the website for all events.
24H Zuidoost takes place in Amsterdam on 16 September at various locations throughout the Bijlmer. Admission to most events is free.
