A future without coffee pods

Jean-Paul Gaillard, formerly CEO of Nespresso, believes that pods from companies including Nespresso are harmful to the environment and should therefore be banned.

That is quite a statement, as Gaillard is now at the helm of Ethical Coffee Company, a competitor of Nespresso. The difference between the two companies? Gaillard’s pods decompose in eight months, while Nespresso’s (aluminium and plastic) take one hundred to five hundred years to disappear from the earth.

Recycling

Nespresso does recycle pods to limit the environmental damage, but with the arrival of new pod manufacturers, that is probably just a drop in the ocean. Another simple solution? Going back to the coffee bean, of course.
