The food scene in Istanbul is booming. Twenty-five percent of Istanbul’s fourteen million residents work in the food sector, and a group of mainly young entrepreneurs is active there. New trendy restaurants open their doors every day, drawing inspiration from the city’s rich history. Istanbul is located precisely at the crossroads between Europe and Asia. It makes sense, then, that this influences Turkish cuisine. You can eat dishes there that originate from the Ottoman era, but you can also taste Armenian and Greek influences. Learn to cook from a grandmother
How fun is it to learn to cook together with a grandmother? That’s what Lisa Gross thought when she started The Legue of Kitchen in New York. Through The Legue, you can take cooking lessons from grandmothers and even learn secret family recipes. In this case, it’s not your own grandmother, but other participating grandmothers of various nationalities. You can choose to learn how to prepare traditional Indian dishes from an Indian grandmother or make Mexican tacos with a lovely Mexican grandmother. In this video, well-known TV host Stephen Colbert takes cooking lessons from Yamini Joshi and learns how to make a famous Indian dish. A great initiative, if you ask us. Now let’s hope someone gets this off the ground in the Netherlands soon too.
