A Vegan Abattoir in Leiden

When you hear the word ‘abattoir’, you probably think of the opposite of vegan. Maybe that’s precisely why it works.

In mid-September, a new lunchroom with a vegan menu will open in Leiden, called Het Slachthuis.

The menu

The menu features sandwiches, cake and ‘drinks bites’. For those with a sweet tooth, there is red velvet cake and blueberry-lemon or mango cheesecake. If you’re in the mood for a filling lunch, you can choose the classic (spicy) hummus and grilled vegetables, a rainbow club sandwich or, for example, a piadina with mango chutney. Feeling more adventurous? Then try the BLT with seaweed bacon and avocado mayonnaise.

Pop-up

At the moment, a temporary kitchen is open in the Meelfabriek in Leiden, where you can order takeaway lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is only possible from Tuesday through Friday; you can order by email or phone.
