All the Delicious Things from North Holland

Our small country has a surprising number of dialects, regions and customs. But there is also plenty to discover when it comes to cuisine. That’s why we’re taking a tour of Holland through all its provinces and their delicious specialities, with today: North Holland

Beemster Cheese
The best-known product from North Holland is undoubtedly Beemster cheese. This cheesemaking company has been active for more than 100 years. The grass-fed milk used comes exclusively from North Holland cows.

Zaanse Mustard
For more than 50 years, mustard seeds were ground at De Huisman windmill in Wormerveer, but production has since moved to a large production facility. Fortunately, the flavour has remained authentic.

Zaanse Mayonnaise
At Van Wijngaarden, tubes of Zaanse mayonnaise have been rolling off the production line since the 1950s. The slightly sweet mayo (you have to like it) can still be found in many households and snack bars.
Davelaar Jodenkoeken from Alkmaar
Jodenkoeken have been made in Alkmaar since 1883. These crisp, airy biscuits with a hint of vanilla are a favourite of many.

Opperdoezer ronde
This potato variety is grown exclusively in the village of Opperdoes. This firm, fast-growing potato can be harvested early in the season. Its low starch content makes it a true delicacy.
