An Office Full of Vegetables

Take the lift from the first to the fifth floor for carrots or beets. In the ‘vertical farm’, vegetables and herbs grow on top of one another.

With horticulture on several floors stacked on top of one another, you have a ‘vertical farm’. That is the idea behind the entrepreneurs at GrowX. As a start-up, they want to grow up to 180 tonnes of herbs and vegetables annually, pesticide-free and with lower transport and energy costs. This year, they will start such a farm in an Amsterdam office building, the first in the Netherlands. Vegetables are already being grown on stacked fields in Japan, San Francisco and London.
Naked at the Table
Almost sixteen thousand people are already eager to dine naked at pop-up restaurant The Bunyadi in London. There is room for only 42 guests each evening. They give up not only their clothes, but also their phones. In June, they will open the doors for dinners in ‘Pangaea style’. That means: back to nature, without electricity and, for those who wish, without clothes.
Orange Cheerios
The breakfast cereal industry is suffering from gluten-free diets and the growing trend of making everything healthy. The brand Cheerios is adapting its products accordingly. The company says it needs to keep the product relevant. So from September, on store shelves: pumpkin Cheerios. Last year, a gluten-free variety already came onto the market. With the pumpkin flavour, you now have vegetables in your breakfast bowl first thing in the morning.
