Are you a licker or a splitter?

A pink HEMA tompouce with that shiny layer of icing and a creamy pastry filling… you could wake us up for one. But what happens next is a great mystery. Because while I neatly split my tompouce (yes, I’m a splitter), some colleagues are the tompouce-abuser type. What’s the deal? There are different ways to eat your tompouce. These are the best known.

The poker
For this technique, you need to take your time. Place your fork straight on the top layer of icing and push through all the layers until you reach the bottom. If you do this calmly, you’ll have every layer of the tompouce on your fork in a single bite. If you do it quickly, there’s a good chance the next bite will be one big, gooey mess. For colleagues in finance or other types with the patience of angels.
The tilter
Really something for IT people. They place their tompouce on its side, making it easier for the layers to stay on top of one another. Then they can pick up all the layers with their fork in every bite. Some thought has gone into this, people.
The licker
Personally, I think this is only acceptable if you’re under ten. But you’d be amazed how many people do it. Every company has a few lickers on staff. They pick up the tompouce with their hands and start greedily licking the cream, after which they eat the bottom and top as their grande finale. Often accompanied by smacking and other unwanted culinary intimacies.
The splitter
Do as I do: remove the top of the tompouce and divide the filling between the bottom and top layers. That way, you get that delicious pastry filling on both the bottom and the top. I mean: is there any other way?!
The rearranger
They stick the top layer with the pastry filling onto the upside-down bottom layer. That way, they can take a big bite without the filling falling out. Really a man thing, if you ask me.
The abuser
Colleague D. No words.
