Asian Cuisine Fans, Take Note: Put This Event in Your Calendar Today

Our list of favorite Asian dishes made it clear: we’re pretty big fans of Asian cuisine. Are you a member of this club too? Grab your calendar. The Heroes Made in Asia event is coming up soon, and it sounds promising.

On February 24 and 25, the Evenementenhal in Gorinchem will be transformed into a true Asian wonderland. Asian culture will be celebrated in full force. Where we’ll be partying hardest is—of course—the Food Market. At this market, you can wander past dozens of stalls serving the best Asian street food. You’ll taste so many delicious things that you’ll almost want to start planning your emigration to Asia right there and then.

What can you expect? Plenty of classics such as Korean corndogs, bao buns and gyoza, as well as more unfamiliar gems. Have you ever tried tteokbokki, taiyaki and mandu? I’m already guessing that your list of favorites will expand considerably by the end of February. Those with a sweet tooth can also indulge at Heroes Made in Asia. There will be stalls serving shaved ice, mochi, mango sticky rice and bingsu. I don’t know about you, but I’m already drooling behind my laptop here.

The Food Theater

But there’s more. Besides tasting, there’s plenty to discover, watch and learn. At the Food Theater, you can see Asian food wizards in action. The professionals from Osaka Ball, for example, will show you how to make the most delicious takoyaki: savory dough balls filled with octopus. And Chef Lei Zhou (from Gorinchem’s Fusion and Utrecht’s Imoto) will show you her fantastic sushi skills. Thanks to her demonstration, you’ll be rolling the neatest sushi rolls at home in no time. Or make yourself an insanely delicious bowl of ramen, because she’ll be showing you how to do that too during the final weekend of February.

You can easily spend hours at the Food Market and in the Food Theater. But if you’re really into all things Asia, it’s worth checking out the rest of the event too. You can also play games, attend cosplay competitions and meet manga artists. Yep, on February 24 and 25, you’ll genuinely find a piece of Asia in the heart of Gorinchem.
