Best of burrata

burata

Whether you eat it as a snack, dinner or part of a cheese board, burrata has a luxurious quality that makes every meal feel festive.

Burrata looks like mozzarella but has one very important addition: cream is added to the inside. The flavor is very mild, and the creamy interior spills out as soon as you cut into it. It’s also great when you’re hosting; little cooking is required. Place it in the middle of the table with a few forks, and it will be gone in no time. These are our favorite combinations.

Lemon
This is how we eat it most often: ridiculously simple, but in our opinion the ultimate way to serve burrata. Garnish with lemon zest, Maldon sea salt and a splash of good olive oil. It’s incredibly creamy on its own, and somehow the freshness of the lemon and the slight sharpness of the oil complement it perfectly.

Anchovies
Salty anchovies also bring out all the creamy flavors perfectly. For example, make this bruschetta with burrata, anchovies, lemon and crispy sage.

Onion compote
With red wine and balsamic vinegar, which also give it a lovely acidity. Serve a little alongside the burrata, or spread everything onto a crispy piece of bread.

burrata panzanella

Salad
Actually, we prefer to eat it as is, with a little garnish or bread. But burrata for dinner is certainly not a bad idea either. It’s delicious to simply place a whole ball on your favorite salad. Or stay in an Italian mood and make this panzanella, replacing the mozzarella with burrata.
