Bianco Spritz: the Italian spritz we’ll all be drinking this summer

Meisje op boot met Martini Spritz

MARTINI Bianco Spritz is everything you need this summer. Sunshine, good company, some delicious snacks and a glass full of sparkling temptation with notes of vanilla, citrus and a touch of Italian flair. L’aperitivo is hugely popular not only in Italy, but now also in the Netherlands. On every terrace, on every menu, in every hand: this is the spritz of 2025.

What exactly is l’aperitivo?

We know the French apéritif and Spanish tapas, but the Italians do it, how could it be otherwise, with just a little more style through l’aperitivo. A social ritual that takes place before the meal and between 6:30 and 9:00 p.m. (and even a little later in the south). Yes, when you see that time, you understand: luckily, there’s something to nibble on. With colleagues, friends or family, on the terrace, at the bar, on the balcony or simply on the sofa, that aperitivo moment can happen anywhere; as long as it’s convivial and there’s something delicious in your glass to whet your appetite. And that’s exactly where the MARTINI Bianco Spritz comes in.

The origins: from Hippocrates to MARTINI

L’aperitivo comes from the Latin ‘apertare’, meaning: to open. In the 5th century, the Greek physician Hippocrates was already prescribing bitter drinks to his patients to combat a lack of appetite. Fast forward to the 19th century. Aperitivo culture spread from northern Italy to the rest of the world thanks to Piedmontese wine producers Martini and Rossi. They put the aperitivo moment on the global map with their iconic MARTINI Bianco, a fresh vermouth based on Moscato and aromatic herbs. And then there was… the Spritz.

MARTINI Bianco Spritz: anyone can make it

Of all the spritzes on the menu (for example, at the popular Bar Bellini in Amsterdam’s De Pijp), the MARTINI Bianco Spritz is a refreshing crowd-pleaser. Softly sweet, slightly bitter, lightly sparkling and with an elegant hint of vanilla and citrus. What I also love about it is that you don’t need to perform complicated tricks or have the skills of a seasoned cocktail shaker. No, anyone can make a delicious Spritz like this. Simply pour, add ice and raise a toast.

The recipe: timeless and simple

Ready to embrace l’aperitivo at home? Here’s the official recipe for the MARTINI Bianco Spritz:

  • 50 ml MARTINI Bianco vermouth
  • 75 ml MARTINI Prosecco
  • 25 ml sparkling water
  • Serve over plenty of ice cubes

And voilà: your summer cocktail is ready. Simple, stylish and, within one sip, you’re in Italy. Well, figuratively speaking.

Aperitivo on your balcony

Yes, that’s the beauty of l’aperitivo. You don’t have to go to Rome, Milan or Florence. Get a bottle of MARTINI Bianco, a bottle of MARTINI Prosecco and some sparkling water. Add some olives, nuts or bruschetta and there you have it: Italy in your backyard. Or on your balcony. Or on your windowsill overlooking the neighbour.

Still not in the mood to shake your own cocktail? Bianco Spritz is on the menus of many cosy spots throughout the country. Wherever you are, it doesn’t matter, as long as that Spritz is properly chilled. Cin cin to la dolce vita!
