Binging with The Crown Tea

Marjan is a fan of The Crown, the Netflix series whose second season starts on December 8. She already has the pot of tea ready for an epic binge session. The Crown tea, of course. From The Republic of Tea. Pun intended?

At the beginning of December (the eighth, to be precise), the second season of The Crown will be released. The series about the early years of the now 91-year-old British Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrated her seventieth wedding anniversary this year with notorious womanizer Prince Philip.

Once again, we’ll feast on the typically British stiff upper lip, the impeccable royal British accent, the restrained tensions among the royals themselves, but also between them and rapidly modernizing England, the intrigues, the secrets, the swishing gowns, and Philip’s avant-hipster beard and sweater.

During the coming Christmas holidays, we’ll naturally want to get through those ten episodes in one long binge session on the sofa. With plenty of embroidered handkerchiefs, crisps, sandwiches, crumpets, scones, and of course liters of tea gathered around us. Tea. The most consumed drink in The Crown.

Republic of Tea

So it’s rather convenient that a smart tea brand is launching a special The Crown Tea series. And an American one at that: The Republic of Tea. Pun intended?

With The Crown Tea, you can easily handle ‘stiff upper lips’ Elizabeth II & co.

For now, there are two tea varieties. The Prime Minister’s Blend, referring to the notorious whisky and champagne drinker Sir Winston Churchill (‘I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me’), is a black tea with bergamot oil, better known as Earl Grey. The Queen’s Evening Tea is a soothing chamomile tea with a touch of honey.

Tipple

We’ll especially need the latter to keep our nerves in check when faced with the unyielding Elizabeth II. But just to be safe, also keep a bottle of tipple (alcohol) on hand to mix into the tea. Churchill did the same, after all. So the story goes…
