Bolenius has been named one of the twenty-five best vegetable restaurants in the world by We’re Smart World. We’re Smart World is a platform where everything is conceived from the perspective of fruit, vegetables and health. The fact that Bolenius gives vegetables a stage just as prominent as fish and meat has earned them a place on the list.

Green bun

The colourful figures from the popular game app Angry Birds are taking over the kitchen of Chinese McDonald’s. The colour of the new burger, Naughty Green Pork Burger, suggests that its expiry date has long since passed. The green-coloured bun is topped with a pork burger, lettuce and a fried egg. A mysterious sauce covers the whole thing, with a hint of jalapeños. Not only has the green angry bird earned a prominent place on the menu, the red variant also exists: the Angry Red Burger.

Solution to food waste

Forty to fifty percent of fruit and vegetable production ends up in the bin. Researchers at Tufts University, an American private university, came up with a way to combat this. An invisible coating made from silk means you can keep vegetables and fruit outside the refrigerator for days. They discovered that strawberries submerged in water containing just 1% biodegradable silk protein ‘fibroin’ stayed fresh for a week. Strawberries without the coating had already begun to rot slightly.
