Chinese Breakfast at Markthal

The Chinese breakfast bar Nixy & Lexy is temporarily moving to the restaurant of the Chinese supermarket Wah Nam Hong in Markthal while the building on West-Kruiskade in Rotterdam is being renovated.

Owners Alexander Wong and Marnix Benschop (who was also featured on the Favor Flav Top 100 Food Influencers 2016 list last year) want to use this opportunity to give people a sneak preview of what they can expect early next year after the breakfast bar reopens. From November 20 until Christmas Eve 2017, they will therefore be at Markthal—and if all goes well, perhaps even a little longer.

Playground for the taste buds

At the Nixy & Lexy pop-up bar on West-Kruiskade, you could sit down for Chinese pastries from their own bakery, such as dim sum, Sichuan wontons and scallion pancakes. At their temporary location in Markthal, you can enjoy Chinese street food and family-style dishes.

Think: congee (Chinese rice porridge) with a variety of toppings to choose from, noodle soups, sticky Chinese spareribs and pitas. The dishes are prepared based on traditional recipes, but with a twist.

This way, Alexander and Marnix are introducing a large audience to the phenomenon of Chinese breakfast and playfully discovering what people enjoy and find delicious. Goodbye oatmeal, hello savory rice porridge.

At Markthal from November 20 until Christmas Eve at:

Wah Nam Hong supermarket (restaurant on the 1st floor)
Dominee Jan Scharpstraat 298
Rotterdam

Reopening in spring:

Nixy & Lexy
Westkruiskade 34-B
Rotterdam
