Drinks around the world

The drinks are flowing freely again around Christmas. A glass of bubbly here, a mug of mulled wine there. The Telegraph has put together an overview of drinks consumed around the world during the festive season. Almost everywhere, rum is added, because that naturally warms you up nicely. In Puerto Rico, they enjoy coquito, a mix of rum, coconut milk, condensed milk, egg and spices. Yes, really. We never said Christmas would be a light affair.

E. coli again

The American restaurant chain Chipotle is still under fire because of the E. coli bacteria. Just a few months ago, the company was embraced by the foodie-hipster Instagram community, but things are different now. It has been announced that another five people have been infected with the bacteria after a meal at the burrito chain. This is the umpteenth incident in which customers became ill after eating at Chipotle. In August, 200 guests were infected with norovirus and 60 people contracted salmonella poisoning. In October, there was the first E. coli outbreak, resulting in 43 locations in the northwestern United States being closed. Meanwhile, Chipotle shares have fallen from $757.77 (August) to $522.01.

Wiping away a tear

Two German film students have made one of the most tear-jerking commercials of the year, inspired by the slogan Keep Walking from whisky brand Johnnie Walker. Emotional adverts are popular around Christmas; recently, a video from a German supermarket also went viral. So watch it, if only for the shots of beautiful Scottish landscapes. And keep that handkerchief close at hand.
