Hamburg bans coffee pods

Drinking Nespresso in government buildings is no longer allowed in Hamburg. All coffee pods are being banned, because they are bad for the environment. The pods cannot yet be recycled. Hamburg wants to become greener, and George Clooney’s favorite coffee does not fit in with that. So it’s back to filter coffee once again.

Rebelz aan de Rotte

This week, Rebelz aan de Rotte is opening in Rotterdam. What makes this new restaurant special is that it works with several formerly incarcerated women. This gives the women training and a better chance on the job market. Head chef Maher Al Sabbagh will combine dishes from the Middle East with Mediterranean influences. Artist duo Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam, known for the Horn of Plenty in the Markthal, have taken care of the interior design. Rebelz aan de Rotte will be open to guests from Saturday, February 27.

Drinking beer while you shop

Koninklijke Horeca Nederland is opposed to the pilot involving freezones in Amsterdam. In these freezones, retailers may, for example, serve customers a beer. According to KHN, alcohol is not something that can simply be served in retail stores, “otherwise people will go shopping for shoes during the day and immediately move on to drinking,” says Ton Poppes, chairman of KHN.
