Cold? Hot chocolate!

FFwarmechoco

King Winter has big plans for our country at the last minute. Get your skates out, because it’s going to seriously freeze. How do you stay warm? With a good cup of hot chocolate, of course. These are our favorite addresses.

4850 Amsterdam

This new coffee-and-wine bar by Swedish barista-chef Rikard and fellow Swedish barista-sommelier Daniel is definitely worth a visit. They serve not only great coffee, wine and food, but also excel at hot chocolate made with 65–70% pure single-origin chocolate from Madagascar and steamed milk. Also available to go.

Metropolitan Deli Amsterdam

Our favorite address for all things chocolate, without a doubt. But especially for hot chocolate. This thick, syrupy drink from chocolatier Kees Raat is pure liquid comfort food. It’s made from raw milk, whose proteins coagulate during cooking, resulting in an extra-thick drink.

Pompadour Amsterdam

The French chocolaterie and patisserie also has an in-house tearoom where the hot chocolate made with Valrhona chocolate is filling enough to count as a full meal. Anyone who also orders a bonbon will automatically roll down the little staircase of this boudoir-like establishment and out the door.

Crème Coffee and Pastry Den Bosch

‘Ciocolatta’ is what the chocolate drink is called at this cozy-hip coffee shop in one of Den Bosch’s nicest shopping streets.

De Bakkerswinkel (including Utrecht)

An all time favorite for a long weekend breakfast, but also for hot chocolate. Served here with Callebaut chocolate and a hint of cardamom.

Sherlock’s Place Rotterdam

This establishment has a whole selection of hot chocolate drinks on the menu. All suspiciously delicious and made with Callebaut chocolate. Topped with marshmallows, for example, or Monin syrups in the craziest flavors. White Toblerone or Oreos, anyone?

De Bonte Koe Rotterdam

This artisanal family business is considered by many to be the best address for chocolate in Rotterdam. But also for hot chocolate. With on the side, naturally, one of their famous handmade truffles.

And here’s how to make silky hot chocolate yourself.
