Toxic mozzarella

Mozzarella from the Italian region of Campania is still being sold in Dutch supermarkets. That can be dangerous, because Italian environmental criminals have been polluting agricultural land for years by dumping chemical waste. The result? Toxic, dioxin-contaminated buffalo mozzarella is reaching our supermarkets. Earlier, dozens of dairy farms had already been forced to close by the EU because the milk was not up to standard. Yet mozzarella from the region is still being sold. And food labels stating the product’s origin are missing. According to the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, responsibility for product safety lies with the producers and the Italian government, but proper controls are lacking there. In this documentary by NPO, you can see how the environmental criminals operate.

Second star for The Jane

In less than two years, they managed to earn two stars. Nick Bril and Sergio Herman achieved this at The Jane. A fantastic accomplishment. Eight Belgian restaurants have received a star for the first time in the Michelin Guide Belgium and Luxembourg 2016. Our neighboring country is also two restaurants richer with two stars.

D-I-Y escargot grow kit

Escargot. You either hate or love this French delicacy, but there is good news for enthusiasts. From now on, you can simply raise snails at home with the Grow Your Own Escargot Kit. What does this kit contain? A house for the snails, instructions on how to care for the little creatures and, yes, recipes for preparing them deliciously. In approximately four to six months, the snails will have fully grown and be ready for the pan.

Culinary in Iran

Rasht, a city in Iran, has been designated by UNESCO as a ‘creative city of gastronomy‘. According to UNESCO, the art of good cooking and delicious food is well understood in Rasht. Other cities on the list include Barcelona, Budapest, Detroit, Liverpool, Rome and Singapore. What do they cook well in Rasht?  Especially fish dishes, which makes sense given the city’s location on the Caspian Sea.

Value for money?

In the heart of London, a restaurant has opened where both drinks and food cost one pound per item. Remarkable, because eating out in London is normally an expensive affair. Jo Kaye drew his inspiration from Israel and New Zealand, where similar restaurants had already opened. But how good can a one-pound sandwich really taste? According to Kaye, it is simple: he simply cannot sell rubbish, because otherwise people will not come back.
