Delivery review: EASTWOOD’s steak-away package

During these crazy corona times, restaurants are closed, so we’re enjoying a nice meal out at home. Fortunately, lots of new and special delivery and takeaway restaurants are popping up. And we’re going to test them for you. That way, we can keep eating well and support the hospitality industry. Today: EASTWOOD from the brand-new Bike&Go. in Amsterdam.

Corona-free cruising
On the ground floor of DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station, you’ll find not only a normally overcrowded Starbucks branch, but also the beer and grill restaurant EASTWOOD. Before corona, they made carnivores happy with their ‘Tomahawk Thursday’. To make sure Amsterdammers could still get their well-deserved cappuccino and steak during these idiotic times, the hotel came up with something super creative: Bike&Go. A drive-thru for bicycles, where you can cruise through efficiently and corona-free to pick up your favorite drinks and bites.
Driv-thru
At the entrance to the route, when the traffic light is green, you’re digitally greeted by an enthusiastic waving guy who takes your order. Besides Starbucks coffee and EASTWOOD’s Steak Away package, you can also order cocktails from SkyLounge Amsterdam, the hotel bar on the 11th floor.
At the next traffic light, you can pay, after which you continue to the bar to pick up the drinks and then to the restaurant’s collection buffet, where you receive your box and a large glass bottle of your favorite sauce. On the other side of the hotel, you cycle back outside. Good news: if you can’t cycle, like me, you can simply walk.

Steak-away
The overflowing Steak Away package contains two skirt steaks with herb sachets, roasted corn on the cob, sweet potatoes, a matching sauce and cheese shavings. In a video, the chef explains how to cook and baste the meat and how to reheat the corn and potato. In just a few minutes, you can put a memorable meat feast on the table. The highlight was the flavorful potatoes, which slid down willingly, like belly-sliding toddlers on a green soap slide. The meat also tasted pretty excellent, if I do say so myself.

Will we be back more often?
Absolutely! For just 29 euros, you get a delicious culinary meat package that feeds two people particularly well, with a large bottle of homemade sauce as a wonderful keepsake—enough to last you the rest of your life. You can also order things like bitterballen, charcuterie or a pulled-chicken sandwich. And the great thing is that you can immediately take a cocktail or a cold specialty beer with you, allowing you to happily avoid the supermarket queue. And, as the icing on an already spectacular cake, you also get a fresh chocolate-chip cookie for that first hunger pang on the way. Bike&Go on Oosterdokseiland is open every day from 8 to 8.
