What’s new?
Holland Casino’s newest location in Amsterdam Sloterdijk now houses an in-house restaurant serving high-quality food. The restaurant is the flagship of the new-style Holland Casino. Chef Sebastiaan Veenhuizen made his mark at, among others, Hilton DoubleTree. You can sit down here at night (until 2:00 a.m.!) for a plateau of fruit de mer or steak béarnaise. The intention is for the restaurant to be open 24/7 in the long term.
What’s it like?
The intimate restaurant has various seating areas, including tables for two, tables with lounge benches and higher bar tables. It is located on a mezzanine above the gaming floor, offering views of the roulette tables. As a guest, you must first pass through Holland Casino’s entrance control (bring your ID card).
What’s on the menu?
Global Dining is the name of the restaurant. The menu is divided into three worlds. Taste of Latin America offers a selection of South American dishes. Think grilled octopus with sweet potato; sea bass ceviche with tiger milk and picanha with pico de gallo (a Mexican sauce with tomato and jalapeño) and polenta. Taste of Asia includes thinly sliced yellowtail kingfish with crunchy vegetables and tataki dressing, or a very good poké bowl with sushi rice, wakame, edamame, nori and sashimi.
The Taste of the Mediterranean menu features classics such as grilled poussin from the rotisserie with romesco, fresh fries and tarragon jus, and steak of Piemontese beef with béarnaise sauce. All in all, it’s a clear, well-organized menu with something for everyone. The dishes are prepared with care and attention. It’s clear that an ambitious chef is at work here. Or, as Veenhuizen puts it himself: the only restaurant within Holland Casino with a Pacojet and Thermomix blender. Another nice touch: the dishes can be ordered either as a main course or as a smaller portion. Several (open) wines from the same region are available with each course. Worth ordering? The slow-cooked short rib with carrot-and-ginger purée, fennel salad and teriyaki sauce. Incredibly tender and juicy, and a perfect combination with the mildly sweet teriyaki and the freshness of the fennel and purée.
Anything else worth noting?
The restaurant has a stunning seafood bar with a daily supply of fresh fish and shellfish. Fruit de mer, anyone? Anyone feeling lucky after dinner can settle in at the live bingo for a round of retro bingo hosted by a real bingo master.
