Dip it low: hotpot at Chin Chin

Chin Chin Hotpot op tafel

Most people know Amsterdam’s Chin Chin Club mainly for the lively parties that all of hip Amsterdam turns up for, but did you know you can also eat incredibly well there? I wrote earlier that the food here is amazing, and now they have something extra fun: every Sunday, you can enjoy hotpot.

During Dip it Low (hello, best name in the world), you can join a true Chinese hotpot feast every Sunday. Hotpot? A large pan of broth is placed on a burner on the table, so it keeps bubbling all evening, until you’re completely satisfied. The table is filled with ingredients, which you can then add to the broth yourself to cook. That way, your noodles or chicken absorb all the flavors of the broth—delicious!

Your body is a temple

You can choose from spicy Sichuan broth, classic Chinese (non-spicy) broth, or a mix of the two. And what goes into that broth? Whatever you want! You can order a meat or fish platter, but also the Your body is a temple platter with tofu and various vegetables. If you like something so much that you want to order it again, or simply want to choose everything yourself, you can also order the ingredients à la carte.

Dumplings and shrimp toast

Whatever you do, don’t forget the homemade dumplings, which become even more delicious when cooked in the spicy broth. There are also noodles and some small snacks on the menu, such as the unparalleled shrimp toast with sriracha and yuzu mayonnaise. Make sure to save some room for dessert too, because you’ll definitely want the fried bao with salted caramel ice cream, five-spice crumble, and pineapple.

Bowls full of food

Somehow, I always really enjoy having to do a little something with my food. Filling tacos or spring rolls at the table, cracking open pistachios, and secretly, I’m also just a fan of gourmetten. If you also feel like you have to hide your love of gourmetten, definitely reserve a table at Chin Chin. Hotpot is incredibly hip, after all! Bowls full of food on the table? Check. Preparing your own food? Check. Forgetting who ordered what and accidentally eating someone else’s food? Check. All the ingredients for an unforgettable evening, then.
