Discount on your coffee

Bring your own mug to Starbucks, and you’ll save fifty cents at checkout.

Good for the environment and good for your bank account: that’s the new offer from Starbucks England. Everyone who brings their own mug to the coffee chain gets fifty cents off their coffee. With Starbucks coffee prices being so high, that’s of course only a small saving, but the aim is to reduce the use of paper coffee cups. In England alone, around 2.5 million paper cups are thrown onto the streets every year, so Starbucks’ idea comes at just the right time.
Food startups
A nice list from Food52 featuring six startups that combine food and tech. What will you find? A company that collects leftovers from restaurants and distributes them to people who can make good use of them, and an app that calculates exactly how nutritious a recipe from any cookbook or website is. You can find all the startups here.
Japanese in Paris
At the classic French bistro Clown Bar in Paris, Sota Atsumi, a Japanese chef from Tokyo, cooks for you. Atsumi is part of a new generation of Japanese chefs choosing French cuisine. Many Japanese chefs were already cooking at renowned Michelin-starred restaurants in the 1990s, but now they are fans of the ‘bistronomy movement’. This means that chefs combine classic techniques and fine dining with the relaxed atmosphere of neighborhood restaurants. These ambitious, affordable restaurants have created a new food culture in the city that attracts many young diners. A welcome development in a city where dining has traditionally been an expensive affair.
