District A: Vietnam in Rotterdam

No energy left to cook? We get it. But delicious food is a must, so never settle for less. That’s why we’ve put together our tips for truly delicious takeaways, the best delivery services and affordable places.

In the center of Rotterdam, you’ll find the tough Vietnamese street food bar District A, run by chef Nghia (known from the former restaurant Nghia N Nghia on the Rozengracht in Amsterdam) and entrepreneur Woei Tjin (also known as the ‘sneaker king’ of Hoogstraat in Rotterdam).
The restaurant’s style is urban and industrial, but above all accessible and cozy. Here you can order the best hangover food and easily drop by during a day of shopping. Depending on your company and the time of day, you can grab a spot at the bar, at a table or outside on the terrace. And thanks to the open kitchen, you can see exactly how your meal is prepared quickly and freshly.
Fresh, fast and simple
The menu features simple dishes at friendly prices ranging from €5 to €12.50. Go for a bun or phõ if you want to be done in one go. A bun is a Vietnamese meal salad with glass noodles, fresh vegetables, fried spring rolls and meat, shrimp or tofu.
A phõ is a comforting noodle soup with a flavorful broth, hearty noodles and fresh ingredients. Or choose small bites such as bao’s (steamed buns with pickled vegetables, pork or chicken), gõi cuôn (fresh spring rolls with crunchy vegetables and, for example, shrimp) and bánh mí (Vietnamese baguettes with French influences) if you want to try a little bit of everything.
Chicken & waffles
In addition to the classics, the American chicken & waffles with a Vietnamese twist is especially highly recommended. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and fried until crispy, and is served with green pandan waffles and sticky caramel.
District A is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. They also deliver most dishes from the menu to your home if you order via Foodora or Deliveroo. Except for the chicken & waffles—you really do have to go to the restaurant for those.
