Will donut culture finally break through in the Netherlands? At the Foodhallen in Amsterdam, they’re going to give it a try with the pop-up stand from Chicks Love Donuts.

Sisters Lin and Suzanne Helderman don’t just serve ordinary donuts; no, they’re introducing an Asian twist on the American classic. The donut is served with Korean fried chicken. Yes, really. At the FavorFlav editorial office, we love the combination of sweet and savory, so we enjoy the American classic chicken and waffles. The menu from Chicks Love Donuts was inspired by that. What makes this chicken from Korea so delicious? The meat is fried twice for extra crispiness and is then coated with a syrupy sauce. This makes it deliciously sticky.

Fat Chick
Together with Jaymz Pool, chef at the popular restaurant Yokiyo, the sisters developed a recipe for the ultimate Korean fried chicken. You can choose from ‘hot chick’, ‘mean chick’ and there’s a ‘fake chick’, made with chicken from the Vegetarian Butcher. If you’re really incredibly hungry, you can supersize the menu and turn it into a ‘fat chick’.

If you’re not in the mood for the combination of chicken and donuts, you can also simply buy the donuts separately. The FavorFlav editorial office hopes for the classic glazed variety, because they’re the most delicious in their simplicity.

Chicks Love Donuts is replacing the temporary standholder Günther’s Flammkuchen. In four months, there will be another new concept.
