Drinking Whiskey at The Malt Vault in Utrecht

Since the end of February, Utrecht has finally had its very first whiskey bar: The Malt Vault. The establishment is located on Voorstraat and looks like an old fashioned gentlemen’s club, with a choice of 130 different whiskeys.

The owner of the establishment is from Australia and ran a whiskey club in London for years. You shouldn’t confuse The Malt Vault with a bar or beer café. You come here to taste and chat with one another, just as people used to do in the past. Unlike back in the days, women are welcome too.

The drinks on the menu aren’t arranged by where they come from, but by flavor. On the left, you start with lighter varieties, and the farther to the right you go, the stronger and smokier they become.

When you visit The Malt Vault, order a tasting board of three whiskeys of your choice. Owner Said is convinced that there’s a whiskey for everyone, thanks to the countless flavors.
