Entree awards presented

entree awards mr. & mrs. watson

It’s that time again: for the eleventh time, the Entree Awards were presented on 27 November, the hospitality awards of the Netherlands. The eleven-member professional jury visited the 55 most distinctive hospitality businesses that opened over the past year and chose a winner in thirteen categories.

Design

What struck the jury this year is that design is becoming increasingly important. And that Dutch design, whether understated and refined or simply exuberant, has an exceptionally high standard. Bodon, La Grande Brasserie, the new restaurant in Apollo Hotel Amsterdam, took home the award for Best Restaurant Design. The message is clear as soon as you enter: less is poor. The interior is exuberant, luxurious, chic and rich, without becoming excessive. Lots of velvet, marble and leather, making it a delight for the jury to dine there.

Coffee

High-quality coffee is also increasingly becoming the norm at restaurants. So you no longer have to travel to that one obscure coffee bar for it. Although we still very much enjoy doing so. The winner in the Best Coffee Concept category is NewWerktheater, also in Amsterdam. Jochem Leegstra and Julia Kortekaas transformed a former theatre into a design studio with a restaurant, photo studio and meeting and event spaces. Coffee has been integrated as an important component.

Next generation

The Next Generation category looks to the future. The jury was searching for a restaurant with a clear vision that goes beyond appearances—without losing sight of taste and hospitality. Mr. & Mrs. Watson, once again in the capital, came out on top here. Everything is entirely plant-based, and there is even a vegan cheese board. In doing so, the restaurant fully embraces the vegan trend and brings it to a wider audience.

Even more awards

By far the most awards went to 020, no fewer than seven. Curious which other ten restaurants also received an award? Then visit the Entree website.
