Europe’s biggest food festival

We could visit every food festival in the Netherlands and never get bored. For people who are just as enthusiastic: head to the biggest food festival in the Netherlands in Den Bosch.

World Food Day takes place on Saturday 13 October, and this time Den Bosch is the host city. This year, the festival focuses on topics including technology and fair trade, sustainability and health within the food industry.

World Food Day

Because while we rarely go to bed hungry, that is certainly not a given everywhere else in the world. World Food Day was established by the United Nations in 1979. On this day, more than 150 countries around the world reflect on the problems and solutions surrounding hunger. Jamie Oliver, for example, goes all out every year with his Food Revolution movement.

Workshops and excursions

Will this be a terribly boring affair where you feel as though you’re back at school? Far from it. You can take part in workshops with names like ‘goat cooks’, where you learn how delicious young goats can be, and ‘sausage roll makeover’, where you give the sausage roll a creative twist together with new residents of Den Bosch from countries including Eritrea. The motto is: look beyond the end of your nose.

Fancy an excursion? Visit De Verspillingsfabriek and see all the things you can make with your failed or leftover vegetables. Or head out with winemaker Geert, who will show you everything at his vineyard while sharing stories along the way. Cheers.

Finally, you can also attend talk shows. How about What Google Eats? A Dutchman (!) named Michiel Bakker can call himself director of Google foods. This means that he decides what all Google offices around the world eat. How does he deal with the sustainability and health aspects of food at work? Judging by a few examples of lunches at Google, we spontaneously want to change jobs. How about Jamaican chicken with green apple, roasted pecans and gorgonzola, or Peruvian raw fish with fresh prawns, cucumber and coriander?
