For all hummus fans: you can now buy hummus gelato

Hummus as a dip, hummus as a spread; for anyone who loves hummus, the following is also delicious news: Boaz (the chef at NENI) and Carlo (the owner of gelateria Miuz) have joined forces to create wonderfully creamy, fresh and sweet hummus gelato.

Carlo Petroni of Miuz grew up in Italy with gelato, made by professionals who are revered there and compared to Michelin chefs. He couldn’t find the soft, creamy, flavour-packed gelato from his memories in the Netherlands. So he decided to open a gelateria himself. Last April, Miuz opened on the Overtoom. By now, his customers know that Carlo isn’t afraid of an occasional experiment – his burrata gelato is a hit.
Hummus gelato
There’s a good chance that the new hummus gelato, made with tahini, chickpeas and lemon, among other ingredients, will become one too. Carlo: ‘It’s always a challenge to turn a savoury dish or ingredient into gelato, but I did it with burrata and now I’ve succeeded again. Hummus is perfectly suited to this.’
For Boaz, as the chef at NENI, hummus is an important part of the kitchen, and he certainly knows how to serve delicious hummus. And now it’s no longer only a spread, but also gelato, incorporated into a delicious dessert. A brilliant idea, if you ask me, because there are plenty of hummus fans.
A scoop or dessert
Curious about the taste? You can order the hummus gelato as a special edition by the scoop at Miuz and as a dessert at NENI (with crispy kadayif (finely chopped and fried filo pastry), halva and olive oil). And believe me: it’s surprisingly delicious!
