For Riesling lovers

pouring white wine

German wine is hot again. And the undisputed German king is, of course, Riesling. Sweet, but much more often refreshingly dry. Delicious when young, or intensely matured: Riesling can do it all. Curious? During RieslingWeeks, this quintessentially German grape can be tasted for next to nothing.

During RieslingWeeks, from Friday 2 June through Sunday 18 June 2017, you can drink German Rieslings all over the country. At restaurants—even Michelin-starred establishments—that create exciting wine-and-food pairings with German Rieslings for you. Or simply at home for a bargain, with a bottle from your own wine shop. But wherever you drink it, RieslingWeeks are the perfect time to get to know the exciting and gründlich gemachte Rieslings (better).

Riesling, the all-rounder

When you think of German Riesling, perhaps you picture sickly-sweet one-litre cartons of Liebfraumilch, or enamel-stripping, face-puckering wines. But it can do so much more. From surprisingly fruity wines from the Moselle to full-bodied and powerful wines from the Rheingau. Would you like a dessert wine with a fresh acidity, or perhaps a wonderfully elegant sparkling wine? The Riesling grape simply offers it all.

Restaurants

At participating restaurants, you can now enjoy a three-course Riesling menu including wine pairing for €45. Only at Michelin-starred restaurants—such as ’t Amsterdammertje (Loenen aan de Vecht) or Perceel (Capelle aan den IJssel)—do you pay an additional ten euros per star. But it will probably be money well spent. The chefs and sommeliers choose their own menu and the accompanying wines. That makes every wine-and-food pairing unique. Did you know, by the way, that some Rieslings pair perfectly with red meat, and that a touch of sweetness can sometimes be delicious too? You can find all the restaurants and their personal menus here.

Wine shops

Not in the mood for a restaurant, but still fancy one of those delicious bottles? Wine shops throughout the country are also running German wine promotions. You can taste the wines on the spot, and there are tasting packs at great prices. That way, you can discover your favourite bottle at home. Will you choose knusprig freshness, something powerful and mature, or perhaps the sparkling Sekt? You can also find the participating shops on the website.
