Freakdonut alert!

krekeldonut

Yes, we know. Protein-rich insects are the food of the future. But still, but still. We’re still not really ready to accept it. Australian donut shop Doughnut Time is celebrating the opening of its first London location with—of all things—a cricket donut. A freakdonut in the purest sense.

Australian donut shop Doughnut Time is definitely not afraid of one more or one less freakdonut. In the past, the owners have regularly launched themed donuts that, to put it mildly, looked pretty freaky.

Mylo Cyrus

From Mylo Cyrus to Shout Out To My Ex. But no matter how frightening they sometimes looked, complete with fake blood and (stabbing) weapons, the contents were limited to innocent, albeit excessively used, ingredients. Such as jam, Nutella, cookie crumbs, M&M’s, Oreos, peanut butter, chocolate, powdered sugar and a whole lot of icing.

A donut with pickled crickets, anyone?

The opening of the first London location is being celebrated with their latest donut, the Bushtucker. And this one breaks with the sweet tradition. In addition to Oreo crumbs, wheat flakes and raspberry jam, the donut is topped with an enormous amount of pickled salted crickets. And that really does look freaky.

Pudding

Anyone who eats the Bushtucker on the spot in the shop wins a gold coin that can be exchanged for a less freaky donut. With pudding or something.
