Frikandellen Party
On 16 September, you can dance to save the frikandel from extinction. The popular snack hasn’t always had it easy.
The frikandel was invented by Dutch butcher’s assistant Gerrit de Vries, but the name comes from the German “frikadelle”, which means flat meatball to our eastern neighbours. In 1996, the frikandel was awarded the title of ‘best-selling snack in the Netherlands’, and it is still incredibly popular.
Secret ingredients
There is considerable debate about the ingredients in a frikandel. It is claimed that it contains many animal parts that people would rather not think about, such as offal. But for enthusiasts, of course, this makes no difference—the taste remains top-notch.
Party organisation
The organisation of the Frikandellen Disco wants to oppose the ban and celebrate the existence of the super snack. What can you expect? DJs playing great music, lots of free frikandellen, plenty of specials and, of course, the discodel.
