Here he is: Alessandro Rancan is the best bartender in the Netherlands
Cocktail shakers now have just as much of a rock-star status as star chefs. Not surprising, because the real cracks shake with almost military precision and a nose for the ultimate flavor combinations—cocktail killers. The best bartender of the moment? That is Alessandro Rancan of cocktail bar Rosalia’s Menagerie. Today, he was crowned the Dutch DIAGEO WORLD CLASS Bartender of the Year 2022.
The WORLD CLASS Competition is the largest bartending competition in the world, with more than 10,000 bartenders from 66 different countries. Lewis Mckenzie of BlueBlood, Thalys Busman of The Tailor and Jono van Lamoen of Ultramarijn competed against one another in the Dutch final.
Speed challenge
The finalists began with a blind tasting of the drinks backstage. They then had to present a signature serve to the audience, after which the top two had to face each other during ‘The Showdown’: a speed challenge. It was Alessandro Rancan who managed to convince the three-person jury during the nerve-racking final.
On to the world final
By winning this coveted title, Alessandro Rancan is now also part of the World Class Family. On September 10, 2022, he may participate in the international final of the World Class Competition in Sydney, where bartenders from all over the world will compete for the title of World Class Bartender of the Year 2022 Worldwide.
