Hey baking enthusiasts! Take part and win the HEMA cake-baking competition

HEMA taartwedstrijd

Don’t make this if you’ve just spent the whole evening playing prosecco pong (or maybe do), but do it when you’re at your most creative: HEMA is challenging you to develop a new cake that will actually be sold in its (online) stores.

HEMA is turning 95 this year, and whoever has a birthday treats everyone! But not just any cake—YOUR cake! HEMA is challenging all enthusiastic home bakers in the Netherlands to take part in the cake-baking competition and bake the tastiest or most creative cake.

From red velvet to… yours?!

Via this link, you can upload a photo of your creation and the accompanying recipe through the entry form. Entries can be submitted until Tuesday, 27 April. The HEMA bakers will select a number of entries, after which those selected may present their cake during the preliminary rounds. The final will take place at the HEMA support office in Amsterdam. And if you win the final? Your cake—just like the previous winner, the red velvet cake—will be added to HEMA’s cake range.

Out of the box (or right inside it)

“Because we are actually going to add the winning cake to our range, there are a number of conditions. Entries must be whole, round, rectangular or square cakes. So sweet, not savoury, a maximum of 8.5 cm high and suitable for 6 to 10 people. The exact conditions and prizes to be won are listed on our campaign website. We will also choose the most creative cake. This cake will not be added to our range and may therefore be conceived and baked completely out of the box. We expect a great deal of interest in the competition and would love to be surprised!”, says HEMA’s John Vermin.

Enter quickly

The final will take place in early June, with a jury consisting of, among others, HEMA’s baking team and Rutger van den Broek, known from Rutgerbakt and the first winner of Heel Holland Bakt. Is baking your great passion, or do you simply have THE recipe that must be shared with the whole of the Netherlands? Then this is your chance! Enter from today, 29 March, via the campaign website.
