Hotspot: Super Lyan

SuperLyan Bar

Dandelyan, the cocktail bar of Ryan Chetiyawardana (‘Mr. Lyan’) in London, was named the best cocktail bar in the world in 2018. Following that success, he opened his Super Lyan in Amsterdam. A lovely spot for (alcohol-free) cocktails and tasty bites.

We walked in and then

The colorful interior and style immediately caught our eye. There are three spaces where you can sit: a cheerful kind of diner-on-steroids, a sunken colorful lounge with great chat-and-lounge chairs, and a rather low covered courtyard. The latter gives off somewhat of a hotel-lobby vibe, and a mix of hip tourists and business guests passes by here.

On the menu

The (mostly English-speaking) service is incredibly service-oriented. We choose a string of dishes from the lunch menu, and in particular the ‘ahi tuna taco’ and the grilled cheese on sourdough stand out. The first is so briny and fresh, with top-quality tuna, and the second so deliciously ooey-gooey-cheesy, on thick slices of good bread… that one comes straight from the pan, we’re sure of it. Super delicious.

Tuna tacos, like!

Beyond Spa Rood

Super Lyan is a cocktail bar, but if you don’t want to drink, there are several surprising options for when mineral water or ginger beer no longer do it for you. The Melitta Spritz, for example, a mix of lemon verbena and Seedlip, tastes fresh and spicy, and the fact that you can’t tell it apart visually from the version with rum, sherry and prosecco (which we also try) naturally helps.

You can also come here for mighty mocktails

All day

Super Lyan is Super Conveniently located within walking distance of Centraal Station, with an original approach, and you can go there all day long. All-day breakfast, all-day brunch and all-day cocktails with that all-day food? Bring it on!

In addition to a cocktail bar, Amsterdam now also has a delicious brunch spot
