How to celebrate National Vodka Day in style

Tomorrow is National Vodka Day! No coincidence, of course, that this fantastic holiday falls on a Friday. But wait. Hold on. Before you go all out: it can also be done with a little less alcohol. So you can actually taste that carefully shaken cocktail. And still get something out of the rest of your weekend.

More drinks, less drunk

Cocktails – we sometimes call them silent killers. Because an evening of drinking cocktails seems like all fun and games at first. But after two or three, they always hit just a little harder than you expected. Well, lo and behold: the low-ABV cocktail. Low-ABV (low alcohol by volume) refers to drinks with a relatively low alcohol percentage. This growing trend in the bar scene is leading to the rise of cocktails with a little less alcohol – without compromising on flavor. There are no official rules or definitions, but roughly speaking, a low-ABV cocktail sits somewhere between a mocktail (without alcohol) and a ‘regular’ cocktail. A nice middle ground for anyone who enjoys drinking cocktails but doesn’t want to get drunk.

Your inner bartender is calling

Making a low-ABV drink at home? Easy: use a maximum of half a measure (25 ml) of a strong spirit such as vodka (40% alcohol or more), a full measure (50 ml) of a drink with 20% alcohol, or anything in between (roughly 35 ml of a spirit with 30%).
