I ate a sausage inspired by Theon Greyjoy

Nerd alert! I’m a fan of Game of Thrones. And whisky. And food. So the arrival of a Game of Thrones-inspired pop-up dinner with a GOT Single Malt Whisky Cocktail Arrangement at the Conservatorium Hotel makes me, to put it mildly, a very happy Targaryen dragon egg.

And rightly so, because this is incredibly well done. You walk into a true Game of Thrones paradise: eight round tables — Targaryen, Tyrell, Tully, Greyjoy, Stark, Lannister, Baratheon and The Night’s Watch — decorated with large candelabras, stuffed crows, furs draped over the chairs, beautiful glasses on the table and menus in sealed golden envelopes. A welcome cocktail based on Johnnie White Walker whisky, and off we go.
From Dothraki tartare to Pigeon Pie
Chef Schilo van Coevorden — a huge fan of the series himself — took inspiration from the series for the seven-course dinner. And how. The references fly at you: from the Dothraki tartare inspired by the raw horse heart Daenerys ate in the series to the miniature version of the Westeros Pigeon Pie served at the wedding in the series.
Greyjoy’s sausage
But my favorite is definitely the lobster sausage with jamón Ibérico, paired with a ‘Talisker sour’. Not only su-per delicious, but above all very funny, because it was inspired by Ramsay Bolton’s torture practices on Theon Greyjoy. No one at my table (House Targaryen, by the way) notices, until I point it out. Feasting and enjoying turns into sobbing and shouting #ofjeworstlust.
Experience it yourself
Anyway, enough spoilers. It’s best to experience it yourself. From Tuesday 21 through Thursday 23 May, you can order the special pop-up menu. Cost? 125 euros. Tickets can be purchased for up to 6 people, but the entire table for 18 people can also be booked at once upon special request. Be quick, though, because only a few spots remain; you can make a reservation here.
