Ilja Gort launches alcohol-free sparkling wine

Pregnant? The designated driver? Taking medication but still want to have a tipple? Good news, according to Ilja Gort. Because his new sparkling wine, Tulipe Zero, is the first alcohol-free wine that is actually drinkable. So says Ilja Gort himself.

“It took a while, but we did it! An alcohol-free wine that you can actually swallow! A delicious dry sparkling wine made from the juiciest grapes: grenache and syrah!” Ilja is not only proud of the wine itself, but also of his son, who made the wine together with his winemaker. For Ilja, wine without alcohol still feels a little like sacrilege, but the time is ripe for it.

Bubbles without troubles

We are all drinking more mindfully than ever, and developments in the field of alcohol-free drinks cannot be stopped. Alcohol is increasingly seen as ‘the new smoking’, and Dry January (taking a break from alcohol for a month) is becoming increasingly popular. So expanding the popular La Tulipe range with an alcohol-free variant is a smart move.

Wine without alcohol, how does that work?

Wine is fermented grape juice, so when we talk about alcohol-free wine, we mean fermented grape juice from which the alcohol has later been removed in one way or another. That is not so simple, but as in so many industries, innovation is flourishing, and current technology makes more and more possible.

A great alternative

Alcohol-free wine is therefore not real wine, so you should not compare it with the real thing. Tulipe Zero is no Moët. But it is certainly a good alternative if your health or religion calls for it, or when you simply do not feel like drinking alcohol. In that case, such a sparkling wine is a pleasant, fruity and fizzy alternative.

Tulipe Zero Sparkling Rosé costs €6.99 and is available at Albert Heijn.
